What You’ll Need
- Glass Etching Cream
- Clean, dry glass item
- Stencil vinyl (cut and weeded)
- Transfer tape (for intricate designs)
- Applicator (brush or popsicle stick)
- Chemical-resistant gloves
- Safety glasses or goggles
- Timer
- Running water (lukewarm)
- Paper towels or lint-free cloth
- (Optional) Rubbing alcohol
- (Optional) Masking tape
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Clean the Glass Wash with soap and water. Wipe with rubbing alcohol and let dry. Avoid fingerprints.
- Apply the Stencil Use transfer tape to apply stencil. Burnish edges well. Remove tape carefully.
- Mask the Area (Optional) Use masking tape to protect glass around the stencil.
- Wear Safety Gear Put on gloves and safety glasses. Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Apply Etching Cream Shake bottle if needed. Apply a thick, even layer over stencil openings.
- Wait Set timer per cream instructions (usually 5–15 minutes). Don’t let cream dry out.
- Rinse Thoroughly Rinse under lukewarm water. Gently rub to remove residue.
- Remove Stencil Peel off stencil and masking tape. Rinse again if needed.
- Dry and Admire Pat dry with a soft cloth. Your etched design is permanent.
Critical Tips
- Clean glass = better etch
- Thick cream layer = even results
- Press stencil edges firmly to avoid bleeding
- Follow your cream’s timing instructions
- Test on scrap glass if unsure
