  • Clean, dry glass item
  • Stencil vinyl (cut and weeded)
  • Transfer tape (for intricate designs)
  • Applicator (brush or popsicle stick)
  • Chemical-resistant gloves
  • Safety glasses or goggles
  • Timer
  • Running water (lukewarm)
  • Paper towels or lint-free cloth
  • (Optional) Rubbing alcohol
  • (Optional) Masking tape

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Clean the Glass Wash with soap and water. Wipe with rubbing alcohol and let dry. Avoid fingerprints.
  2. Apply the Stencil Use transfer tape to apply stencil. Burnish edges well. Remove tape carefully.
  3. Mask the Area (Optional) Use masking tape to protect glass around the stencil.
  4. Wear Safety Gear Put on gloves and safety glasses. Work in a well-ventilated area.
  5. Apply Etching Cream Shake bottle if needed. Apply a thick, even layer over stencil openings.
  6. Wait Set timer per cream instructions (usually 5–15 minutes). Don’t let cream dry out.
  7. Rinse Thoroughly Rinse under lukewarm water. Gently rub to remove residue.
  8. Remove Stencil Peel off stencil and masking tape. Rinse again if needed.
  9. Dry and Admire Pat dry with a soft cloth. Your etched design is permanent.

Critical Tips

  • Clean glass = better etch
  • Thick cream layer = even results
  • Press stencil edges firmly to avoid bleeding
  • Follow your cream’s timing instructions
  • Test on scrap glass if unsure
