Lesson 2.2: The Design Page – Your Canvas (with PDF Cheat Sheet)
The Design Page is where your creativity comes to life. Understanding its basic settings is crucial.
- The Page Setup Panel: This is the most critical first step for any project. Before you start designing, you’ll want to set your:
- Machine: Ensure “Cameo 5” is selected.
- Cutting Mat: Choose the size of your cutting mat (e.g., 12×12 inch).
- Media Size: This is the size of the material you are cutting (e.g., Letter size, 12×12 in cardstock). Matching this to your physical material helps you visualize your project accurately.
- Basic Navigation: Learn how to zoom in/out on your digital canvas using the zoom tools or your mouse scroll wheel, and how to move around (pan) to view different parts of your design.
- Drawing Tools: Practice creating basic shapes like squares, circles, and lines using the tools on the left sidebar. These are the building blocks of many designs.
- The Text Tool: Learn how to type words and, most importantly, how to change fonts using the fonts already installed on your computer. This opens up endless possibilities for personalized projects.
