Create a Print-Ready File
Lesson 2: Creating a Print-Ready A4 File in Canva
Now that you have your individual designs, you’ll arrange them on a single A4 sheet to optimize your print paper usage.
Step 1: Set Up Your A4 Custom Page in Canva
- From the Canva homepage, click “Create a design.”
- Select “Custom size.”
- Change the unit to “inches” or “mm.”
- Enter the standard A4 dimensions:
- Inches:
8.27 inches W x 11.69 inches H - Millimeters:
210 mm W x 297 mm H
- Inches:
- Click “Create new design.” This is your master print sheet.
Step 2: Import Your Individual Designs
- On your A4 Canva page, go to the left-hand menu and click on “Uploads.”
- Click “Upload files” and select the “PDF Print” files you saved for your mug, shirt, keyring, and business card.
- Once uploaded, click on each design in the “Uploads” section to add them to your A4 canvas.
Step 3: Arrange and Optimize Designs on the A4 Sheet
- Drag and drop each design onto your A4 canvas.
- Crucially, resize each design to its original intended sublimation dimensions (e.g., if your mug design was 9×3.8 inches, make sure it is exactly that size on the A4 sheet). You can click on the design and see its current dimensions, then adjust by dragging the corners or using the size input.
- Arrange the designs to fit as many as possible on the A4 sheet without overlapping. Leave a small margin between designs for easier cutting after printing.
Step 4: Save Your Final Print-Ready A4 File
- Once all designs are correctly sized, arranged, and mirrored on your A4 canvas, click “Share” (or “Download”).
- Select “Download.”
- Choose “PDF Print (best for professional printing)” as the file type.
- Download your print-ready A4 file.
This file is now ready to be sent to your sublimation printer. Congratulations, you’ve successfully measured your blanks, designed your images in Canva, and prepared a perfectly sized, print-ready file for sublimation!
